Sodium Lauryl Ether (SLE) is an unsurfactant, which means it does not lower the surface tension between water and oil. Instead, it serves as a solubilizing agent, helping oils and fats dissolve in aqueous solutions. SLE is commonly found in toothpaste, soap, and personal care products, where it’s used as a mild surfactant. However, it can also be used in industrial processes, such as oil exploration, as a flame retardant and as an emulsifier in drilling fluids.
